1. There is still a certain gap compared to foreign products, and low price advantage is not the core of market competition.
Although domestic products have certain geographical and price advantages in the market competition, compared with foreign products, we have a certain gap in product performance, variety, stability, etc., which is related to the backwardness of our product formula, processing technology (such as automatic control and continuous production control), processing equipment (the application of large capacity reaction equipment), and post-treatment technology (spray drying is widely used in China, and fluidized bed drying is widely used abroad). As a result, some industry enterprises have fully realized these issues and have established cooperative relationships with research institutions to conduct research on plastic additives. Companies such as Shandong Rike, Shandong Ruifeng, Weihai Jinhong, and Zibo Huaxing have set up their own research and development centers to study the modification mechanism of ACR and the processing mechanism of PVC, and have launched marketable products.
2. Small factories are diverse and there is no dominant leading enterprise that holds an absolute position, leading to disorderly competition in the market.
There are about 30 domestic ACR manufacturers, but only 4 of them have large-scale production (with an annual plant capacity of over 5000 tons), namely Shandong Rike Chemical Co., Ltd., Shandong Ruifeng Polymer Materials Co., Ltd., Zibo Plastic Additive Factory, and Weihai Jinhong Group. The products of these large-scale enterprises have established a good image in both domestic and international markets, regardless of product variety and quality. But in the past two years, with the prosperity of the PVC processing industry, some ACR small factories with a capacity of less than 1000 tons have rushed forward. Due to their simple production equipment and poor product stability, these enterprises can only survive by dumping at low prices, resulting in fierce price competition in the domestic market. Some low-quality and low standard products immediately flood the market, bringing adverse effects to downstream processing enterprises and significant negative impacts on industry development. It is suggested that the Plastic Processing Association take the lead in establishing the ACR Additive Industry Association to unify industry standards, regulate industry development, eliminate counterfeit products, and reduce disorderly competition. At the same time, large-scale enterprises should increase their product development efforts, adjust their product structure, and maintain synchronous development with similar foreign products.
3. The rise in crude oil prices has led to an increase in raw material prices and a decrease in corporate profits.
Due to the continuous rise in international crude oil prices, the main raw materials for ACR production, methyl methacrylate and acrylic ester, have surged. However, downstream customers' delayed price increases have led to a general decline in profits for ACR processing enterprises, resulting in a loss for the entire industry in 2003 and 2004. Due to the stabilization of raw material prices, the industry has shown a good trend of profitability.
4. Lack of professional talents, industry research has not been able to develop in depth
Due to the fact that ACR additives are a type of polymer material additive that only developed in China in the late 1990s, their research and development units and researchers are relatively few compared to other additives such as plasticizers and flame retardants. Even if there are individual research institutions developing ACR additives, the lack of good integration between researchers and the plastic processing industry has led to a lack of in-depth product research. The development of ACR in China relies solely on a few companies' own research institutions to organize and develop. Although some achievements have been made, there is a significant gap compared to foreign peers in terms of research funding, R&D equipment, and R&D quality. If this situation is not fundamentally improved, it will be unknown whether processing aids can firmly establish themselves in the domestic market in the future.
